Banke Bihari Temple History
Banke Bihari Temple was built in 1864 by Swami Haridas, the famous saint and guru of Tansen. According to legend, Lord Krishna himself appeared before Swami Haridas as Bankey Bihari, and his idol was later enshrined in the temple. The idol of Bankey Bihari ji is considered to be self-manifested (Swayambhu) and is worshipped as a living deity.
