Sundarkand –

Sundarkand, the fifth chapter of the epic Ramcharitmanas by Goswami Tulsidas, narrates the heroic exploits of Lord Hanuman during his quest to find Sita in Lanka. This chapter exemplifies unwavering devotion, courage, and selfless service. Regular recitation of Sundarkand is believed to bestow strength, remove obstacles, and bring peace and prosperity to one’s life.

Sundarkand Pooja Procedure (सुन्दरकाण्ड पूजा विधि)

Preparation and Cleanliness

  • Wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean, preferably traditional clothes.

  • Clean the pooja space and arrange a clean red or yellow cloth on a chowki or small table.

  • Place the idols or photo of Lord Hanuman, Lord Ram, Sita Mata, and Lakshman on the altar.

  • Light a ghee diya (Lamp) and incense sticks (Agarbatti).

Puja Samagri (Pooja Items Required)

  • Ghee Diya
  • Incense Sticks
  • Fresh Flowers (Preferably Red Hibiscus)
  • Roli (Vermilion)

  • Offer the water to the ground (or in a small bowl).

Chant this Mantra

“Om Anjaneyaya Vidmahe, Vayuputraya Dhimahi, Tanno Hanumat Prachodayat.”

Offer flowers and chant “ॐ हनुमते नमः” or  “Om Hanumate Namah.”

Hanuman Ji Ki Aarti (हनुमान जी की आरती) - Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki

Hanuman Ji Ki Aarti

Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki, Dusht dalan raghunath kala ki
Anjani putra maha baldai, Santan ke prabhu sada sahai

Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki

De beera raghunath pathaye, Lanka jari siya sudhi laye

Lanka jari asur sanhare, Siyaramji ke kaaj shaware
Laxman murchit pade sakare, Aani sanjeevan pran ubare

Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki

Paithi patal tori jam-kare, Aahiravan ki bhuja ukhare
Baye bhuja asurdal mare, Dahine bhuja santjan tare

Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki

Sur nar munijan aarti utare, Jai jai jai hanuman uchare
Kanchan thar kapor lau chayi, Aarti karat anjana mai

Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki

Jo hanuman ji ke aarti gave, Basi baykunth param pad pave

Aarti keeje hanuman lalaa ki

Regional Variations

While Chaitra Purnima is the most widely recognized date, some regions observe Hanuman Jayanti at different times:

  • Telugu Hanuman Jayanthi: Observed for 41 days starting from Chaitra Purnima and concluding on the tenth day of Vaisakha Krishna Paksha.

  • Tamil Hanumath Jayanthi: Celebrated during Margashirsha Amavasya (typically in December or January); in 2027, it falls on January 7.

  • Kannada Hanuman Vratam: Observed on the 13th day of Margashirsha Shukla Paksha, which falls on December 22, 2026

Hanuman Jayanti or Hanuman Janmotsav 2026 will be celebrated on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
