Hariyali Teej 2025 Vrat Katha (हरियाली तीज व्रत कथा)

Hariyali Teej 2025 Vrat Katha in English

According to the Puranas, in her previous birth, Devi Sati immolated herself in the sacrificial fire at the yajna organized by her father, King Daksha Prajapati, because he had insulted Lord Shiva. In her next birth, Sati was reborn as Parvati, the daughter of King Himavan.

To reunite with Lord Shiva as her husband, Goddess Parvati undertook severe penance. She observed austere fasts and performed intense tapasya (spiritual discipline) for many years to please Lord Shiva. It is said that Parvati observed this penance for 107 lifetimes with the desire to have Shiva as her husband, and finally, in her 108th birth, her wish was fulfilled.

On the day of Hariyali Teej, Goddess Parvati observed a strict fast and prayed to be united with Lord Shiva in marriage. Pleased by her unwavering devotion, Lord Shiva accepted her as his consort.

This day is considered highly auspicious, as it marks the divine reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Hence, married women observe this fast and worship the divine couple, praying for the long life of their husbands and a blissful married life.
