Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat Katha
In ancient times, in a kingdom called Vaitharani, there lived a righteous and compassionate king named Vaikhanas. One night, he had a disturbing dream in which he saw his late father suffering terribly in a hellish realm, his body glowing red like copper, crying out in extreme agony, and begging his son to save him from unbearable torment. Shocked and heartbroken, the king woke up trembling and immediately sought guidance from his priests and royal sages. They advised him to visit the great sage Parvat Muni for clarity. The king hurried to the sage’s ashram and narrated the entire vision. With his divine insight, Parvat Muni explained that the king’s father was indeed suffering in the afterlife because of sins committed in his past birth, but assured the king that his liberation was possible. The sage revealed that the upcoming auspicious day—Mokshada Ekadashi, falling in the bright fortnight of the month of Margashirsha—is a divine tithi capable of granting liberation from sins and even from hell. By observing a strict fast, worshipping Lord Vishnu with devotion, staying awake through the night, and offering the punya (merit) of the fast to his father, the king could free him from suffering. Filled with hope, King Vaikhanas performed the Mokshada Ekadashi fast with full devotion when the day arrived, worshipped Lord Vishnu, chanted holy names, and completed the rituals with sincerity. The next day, during the Parana, he dedicated all the earned merit of the vrat to his father. At that very moment, a divine voice proclaimed that the king’s father had been released from hell and ascended to the heavenly realms. Overwhelmed with joy, the king understood the immense spiritual power of Mokshada Ekadashi— a sacred observance that not only purifies the soul of the devotee but also grants liberation to others when its merits are offered selflessly.
Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat Katha in Hindi
