The History of Banke Bihari Temple and the divine appearance of Bihari Ji has a mystical beginning. The story dates back to the 15th–16th centuries when Sant Haridas Ji, the guru of Tansen, lived in Nidhivan. A divine incarnation of Lalita Sakhi, Haridas Ji’s bhajan was so powerful that Radha-Krishna themselves manifested before him. As Krishna and Radha merged into a single form, the enchanting Banke Bihari Ji appeared. The idol seen today at the Banke Bihari Mandir is believed to be the exact form revealed to Sant Haridas Ji. This miraculous manifestation is what we celebrate as Banke Bihari Prakatya Utsav.

What Role Did Sant Haridas Ji Play in Banke Bihari Prakatya Utsav?

Sant Haridas Ji is central to the entire Utsav. The Banke Bihari Prakatya Utsav would not be possible without him. Sant Haridas Ji’s devotion and daily bhajan attracted the divine couple. During one such satsang, Radha-Krishna revealed themselves. They then manifested into a single murti—Banke Bihari Ji. Haridas Ji installed the deity for public darshan, and this event became the festival celebrated as Banke Bihari Appearance Day.
